
This reviewer admits to having been innocent of the fact that the unit will not provide a reliable measurement until a piece of special reflective tape is stuck to whatever's being measured. Without the tape, the unit will sometimes lock on and read, but most often it will not. Yes, they give you some strips of the stuff. I wonder if all laser tachometers are similarly inconvenient, or just the one I happened to pick. If this is a generic issue, I can forgive the vendor (and Amazon) for not mentioning it, but if it's not, I certainly would have preferred one that didn't need the surface "prepared" before measurement.
